Michael Reedy

The theme that links all of my contemporary artists is ‘exaggeration and the beauty of anatomy.’ I wanted to focus on artists who showcase the natural beauty of the human form as well as internal beauty. My goal was to explore the organic and surprisingly structured human body. The majority of artwork in existence contain renditions of the human figure, and yet there is essentially a whole other avenue of the body that is underrated—the internal anatomy.

  Michael Reedy was born in Galesburg Illinois. He earned a BFA in drawing and an MFA in painting. He currently works as a professor at Eastern Michigan University. Reedy works in painting, graphite, and other mixed media. His work revolves around realism and an accurate representation of the human body. In his work he weaves playful characters and graphic backgrounds in with his figures. He considers his goal is “to make each new image more beautiful and self-indulgent than the last.” I find his work displays a high degree of veneration for human anatomy and he treats the body as a constant mystery that must be explored.
